24-year-old who was catsitting little sister's unspayed $2,500 Maine Coon for a week suddenly refuses to return the cat to her sister who's had her for a whole year, claiming the feline was malnourished: 'My dad said we should get cops involved'

People who have never had cats seem to always think that adopting a cat and taking care of a cat is going to be easy, but we, as cat owners, know that it's not. It may be "easy" on a day-to-day basis, when everything is fine, when your cat is healthy, when your finances are in order, but when something goes wrong… Well, cats can be expensive, just as expensive as dogs or any other pets. And you, as a responsible cat owner, who is only trying to give your cat the very best, have to do what you have to do. And if that means that you can't afford your cat for a while, then you find a catsitter - a good one, one that you trust.

That is what this cat owner thought she was doing. When she "loaned" her cat, the cat she has had for ten years, to her sister, who also owns cats, she thought that her feline would be in good hands - until she can take her back and take care of her properly. What she didn't expect was her sister straight-up refusing to give her cat back.

What an insane situation. And yes, call the cops if your sister has lost her mind and stole your cat. Do whatever you have to do. There's an itty bitty part of us that is worried that the cat is malnourished, but we have nothing to prove that, no reason not to believe this person. So, yes, cops and anything else that you need.

We will say it now and a million more times if we have to: spay your cats! Especially if you have cats that cost so much money. Unless you want them to be at risk of having kittens - whether by choice or by means like this - then make sure that they can't. We don't know if this is what the sister wants to do here, but the fact that the worry, the possibility is there in the first place is unacceptable.
