So a week and a half ago I (21 F) left my ex boyfriend's (24 M) place, due to us no longer working out, my sister (24 F) let me sleep on her couch and she put my cat in the cat room.

All 4 cats including mine were all stuck in one small room with their stuff, And I slept on the couch, The next day I decided go back to my dads place and have my sister watch my cat until I could figure out some things.

Now I am settled in my dad's place and i get my cast off on Monday, I have put in a job application to a job and my dad. is willing to help me care for my cat.

Now my sister is claiming that my cat was malnourished and abused, but everyone says she is healthy and no where near abused, so I'm trying to get my cat back on Monday and my sister said absolutely not happening, I came here for advice and I am not sure what to do.

My dad said we should get the cops involved but I really wanted peace. It's just sad she would let me have my cat back. Also my cat is a European Purebred MaineCoon and she cost 2'500$.

She is a year old and I've had her since she was 10 weeks old. I can provide pictures of my cat if you all would like. Also I have ownership and the papers proving she's mine.

Minecraft-is-me OP • 1d ago Will they even be able to retrieve my cat? I heard that sometimes you have to go to court.

KatKit52 1d ago Your cat is your property. It's also worth 2500$. Call the police, ask them to accompany you while you pick up your property from your sister. Then go and get your cat. Stop thinking about protecting your sister's peace at the expense of your own. She has stolen something worth 2500$ from you. She has stolen something you love. You say you don't want to disturb the peace. But does she care as much about you as you do about her?

Minecraft-is-me OP • 1d ago I assume she doesn't care at all if very little if she's refusing to give my cat back. Saying that I need to have a job for months and to prove to her that I have money to support my cat and all. When my dad stated he's willing to help me support my cat. I plan on getting a job ASAP when my cast comes off anyway.

TheAlienated Penguin • 1d ago You can prove how much you paid for your cat, so this is theft of a $2500 "piece of property" legalese for fluffy giant kitty. In some states, that is a felony.

Minecraft-is-me OP. 1d ago Oh yes I sure can I have the paperwork and the cash apps from the breeder. Stating that I paid in full for my cat.

    • orlikedont 1d ago I'm usually all for peaceful retrieval in these situations but I agree with other comments this is past that point. Pets are considered property here in the US and theft of them is very very serious. In the past few years there have been a handful of laws passed federally that protect them from ab e as well. I hope she has been taking proper care of all her kitties and complies with the police swiftly. I am very glad your dad is in your corner on this and I'm so sorry your si

Minecraft-is-me OP 1d ago . Thank you so much! And I am worried that she will try to say that I was abusing my cat, hence why I said that Im willing to show pictures that Im not nor have ever abused her or not fed her.

Brave Word8790 • 1d ago I really hope that the kitty is spayed, especially if you paid $2500. Because to me. It sounds like your sister stole your cat to breed her.

Minecraft-is-me OP • 1d ago Unfortunately I wasn't able to spay her right away but you got a good point and that's my fear, I don't want her bred at all, she's a house cat not a br ing cat.
